The weekend includes:
Accommodation and home cooked food in a Mountaineering Hut situated about a mile out of Coniston in the picturesque Coppermines valley.
The hut is a peaceful retreat in a tranquil setting, totally surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, yet a stones throw from the bustling village of Coniston with its pubs, shops and cafes.
2 days of activities guided by an expert local instructor:
Canadian canoeing on the famous Coniston Water. You will have the opportunity to stop off and explore the bays and Islands and hone your paddling skills. We'll take our lunches and have them by the side of the lake.
In the afternoon have a go at Ghyll Scrambling - otherwise known as Gorge walking. Scramble your way up a serious of waterfalls, through plunge pools and experience jumping into the crystal clear waters of a mountain stream.
On Sunday you'll visit Cathedral Quarry just outside of Coniston. A relaxing 25 minute guided walk through woodland brings you to this magical place. Learn about Conistons rich mining history then explore the grand carvern and tunnels. Check out the spectacular views from the top of the quarry then have a go at a hair raising 150ft abseil back down into the quarry.
The evenings are yours to relax, socialise and share stories whilst helping to prepare the evening meal. It is a very relaxed weekend where everyone gets involved. Your guide will be there to organise and host the weekend. For more information on our activities see our activities.
Fri evening: Arrive anytime from 5pm. Settle into accomodation, dinner and an evening campfire.
Sat morning: Breakfast and make packed lunches for the day.
Depart 9 am for the day: Canoeing on Coniston.
Sat afternoon: Ghyll Scrambling in Coniston. Return to hut for showers.
Sat evening: Home cooked dinner in the hut. Dietary requirments catered for. Soft drinks provided. If you wish to bring something stronger you are very welcome.
Sun morning: Breakfast and make packed lunches for the day. Pack up and check out leaving the hut as we found it.
Depart 10 am for quarry explore and abseil.
Sunday afternoon: Finish activities around 3pm. Final goodbyes and depart for home.
2 nights accomodation in a Mountaineering Hut.
All meals. - 2 home cooked dinners. 2 packed lunches. 2 continental breakfasts. Example dinner menu - Chilli con carne & rice, garlic bread. Chocolate brownie dessert. Soft drinks. Packed lunch of sandwiches, choice of fillings, crisps, snacks and fruit. Bottle of water. You are welcome to bring any food you would like along with you.
2 days of activities. Canoeing, Ghyll Scrambling & Abseiling
All safety kit, insurance and expert instruction from local guide.
Level of fitness required: Moderate
Group size: 12 Maximum
Hut facilities: Equipped Kitchen and dining area, 2 toilets, 2 showers. Drying room, heating, alpine style bunk beds. Lounge with wood burner. Outside area. Plenty of parking. Access is via a gravel road suitable for cars.
What you need to bring with you:
Good quality Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
Decent Walking Boots or sturdy Trainers
Sturdy Trainers or Boots you don't mind getting wet.
Swimwear for under wetsuit
Towel and toiletries
A Sleeping bag
A Sheet and Pillowcase
A small day Rucksack
