Easter is one of the best times of year to visit the Lake District. Spring arrives across the fells, daffodils are in full bloom, and the region fills with family-friendly events, Easter trails, and outdoor adventures.
Whether you’re planning a day trip, a family holiday, or simply looking for something fun to do during the school holidays, the Lake District offers plenty of ways to celebrate Easter in the great outdoors.
Here’s our guide to what’s on in the Lake District this Easter:

1. 🍺Make sure to check out Taste Cumbria Food Festival in Keswick.
This popular event showcases the best local food and drink from across the region, with:
Artisan food stalls
Cooking demonstrations
Local produce and street food
Activities and entertainment for families
The festival takes place over the Easter weekend, making it a great stop during a Lake District holiday.

🏰One of the biggest Easter events in the Lake District takes place at Muncaster Castle.
During the festival (selected dates in late March and early April 2026), families can enjoy:
The Big Muncaster Egg Hunt
The famous “Big Egg Drop” challenge
Easter craft workshops
Daily flying displays from the Hawk & Owl Centre
Access to castle gardens, trails, and play areas
Children can even design protective shields for eggs before watching them dropped from the castle roof as part of the event.
It’s a full day of entertainment set in one of the Lake District’s most historic locations.

3.🐣Easter wouldn’t be complete without a traditional Easter egg hunt, and the Lake District has some fantastic hunts planned for you.
Wray Castle Easter Trail
Families can explore the stunning grounds around Wray Castle while solving clues along the way. The trail runs 28 March – 12 April 2026, with a trail sheet, bunny ears, and a chocolate egg waiting at the finish.
Sizergh Castle Easter Trail
Another popular National Trust event, the Sizergh Easter trail takes place 3–6 April 2026 and includes nature-inspired activities along the route, making it perfect for younger explorers.
These trails are a great way to combine fresh air, nature, and a bit of Easter fun for the whole family.

4.☔If the weather turns typical Lake District (a little rainy!), there are still plenty of indoor activities along with some great outdoor ones like Ghyll Scrambling.
At Windermere Jetty Museum, visitors can enjoy:
Easter craft workshops
Family egg hunts
Seasonal wildlife trails
Creative activities for kids
These activities run throughout April and are included with museum admission.

5.🌷Of course, the best activity in the Lake District at Easter is simply getting outdoors.
Spring is the perfect time for:
Scenic walks around the stunning Cathedral Quarry, once owned by Beatrix Potter
Family hikes through Grizedale Forest on their woodland trails
Ride the famous ‘La’al Ratty’ steam train on the 150 year old Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway
Welcome back the Ospreys to the Lake District where they come back to breed in April, primarily nesting near Bassenthwaite Lake (Dodd Wood) and Foulshaw Moss.
With longer days and fresh spring scenery, it’s one of the most beautiful times to explore our National Park.
